re:call

What stays with us through meeting, leaving and re:meeting?

re:call is a film made immediately after I had retired from ballet company, with two close friends who had also retired. I wanted to work with the ballet form, through the particular, close relationships to create something that was distinctly ours. 

In classical ballet, we usually bring our artistic expression to works through virtuosity and our interpretation of existing characters and roles. It is a form that has resisted innovation, change and the revolution of contemporary practice. In my work, I try to bring the iconoclastic and inclusive approaches of contemporary practice to ballet forms. In re:call, we wanted to elevate our personal relationships and private sentiments in a way that is not usually possible.

The provocation for re:call was to consider change: meeting, leaving and re:meeting.
